The Carbonated Tailings Process
Blue Skies Minerals is developing the Carbonated Tailings Process. In this process, carbon supplied as a gas or a solution is blended with ground mining wastes (mine tailings) along with additives, and this mixture is disposed underground or at surface together with waste rock. This carbon is converted to carbonate minerals and is retained permanently. There is no risk for the carbon to be lost or redissolved.
Our process improves the management of mining waste and eliminates the release of toxic metals, providing a tangible environmental benefit.
Changing Mining Forever
The Carbonated Tailings Process is designed to eliminate environmental liabilities. Solidified carbonated tailings prevent contaminant leaching, regardless of mine type or ore body. They also eliminate the need for tailings impoundments, which have failed catastrophically in the past. We improve waste management and take away the reasons why people hate mining
Our process is a bolt-on to existing or planned mines. We believe that the Carbonated Tailings Process will be adopted widely through the industry because it is simple, cost-competitive, and because it eliminates key environmental liabilities. We expect that regulators will love it too. We are changing mining forever.
We have secured Letters of Interest from several mining companies and are planning to develop our first commercial plant by 2027.
